Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley – Just get there….

Australia. A land of wonder, natural beauty and peace. A place where the blue really does meet the gold and your sensory experiences are heightened with the smells of our native bushland, our salty oceans and our crisp country air.

You can really breathe in Australia (yes, the fires have subsided). Compared to many countries around the world, there is space to think, space to just be and space to heal from whatever you are facing in your everyday life.

While we have had our fair share of natural emergencies over these past few months, Australia is definitely back and open for business. We have regenerated and are ready to go. We need travellers more than ever though. To not only boost the economy in the areas that were directly impacted by the fires, however to show the world that this country is vast and has many opportunities on offer. Now, there is a place that I believe encompasses everything that is good about Australia. From its conservation programs, to the location, surrounding environment, culinary on offer and the service level, nothing quite competes. That place is Emirates, One & Only Wolgan Valley.

I sent one of my amazing writers Jessica O’Connell there after they opened back up to the public on February 2nd. Wolgan Valley was one of the areas hit by the fires, so it was pleasing to see the conservation work that had gone into their re-opening. Jessica not only got to see first hand the regeneration, however as expected, came back feeling like a completely new person based on the experience encountered. So, I am going to let Jessica take you on a journey to one of my favourite destinations in the world.

Here is Jessica’s review. No doubt you’ll be booking the minute you finish reading:

“With wombats on your doorstep, kangaroos hopping by your bedroom window and a private lap pool overlooking breathtaking cliff faces, you could be forgiven for thinking you were miles from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind; but in fact you’re only three hours from Sydney. Welcome to Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley, the luxury retreat of your dreams.

Tucked away in the middle of the Greater Blue Mountains on a 7,000-acre private conservation reserve, this sustainable resort is without a doubt, heaven on earth. From the minute you turn off the Castlereagh Highway, you feel a sense of magic.

Fly in on a private helicopter and land directly on the property, or make your own way there and be met by one of the friendly staff members who will load your bags into the back of a Lexus SUV and chauffeur you to reception. Of course, it’s 5pm somewhere, so why not enjoy a delicious spritz whilst the staff check you in and you bask in the serenity that is about to become your new ‘normal’ for the next few days.

Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley is all about you. This carbon neutral resort gives you the chance to curate your own bespoke journey, one where you can be as active or as slow as you like – no judgement here. You can be up at the crack of dawn every day watching the sunrise (which I advise you do at least once!) or completely embrace a glacial pace, it’s totally up to you. If it’s the latter, you’ll be pleased to know that staff zip around on golf carts and are more than happy to give you a lift – it’s a tough life rolling from one decadent meal to the next. Speaking of which, all produce is locally grown and sourced. Given the recent devastating fires and floods that have ravaged the east coast of Australia, it feels extra special being able to eat and drink locally, and support those doing it tough, all whilst watching the incredible wildlife roam free.

From twenty-somethings to seventy-somethings, there’s no shortage of things to do should you want to get out and explore. You could go bike riding after breakfast, try your hand at archery post-lunch,  horse riding at sunset or enjoy a spot of stargazing before your nightcap. For something a little extra special, you could book a private picnic at one of the many breathtaking lookouts on property, or lose a few hours at the very opulent spa. One&Only are renowned for offering some of the most luxurious spa experiences around the world and spots fill up quickly, so be sure to book this on the day you arrive, or better yet, a few weeks before your trip – tip if you don’t want to miss out. There are very few destinations that tick all the boxes in all seasons, but this breathtaking resort has you covered.

But of course, it’s your spacious villa that you really want to know about. More like a small home, the villas have everything you need and more. Notable standouts include the private pool, the large balcony and the walk-in wardrobe, which would impress even the toughest of critics – Carrie Bradshaw, I am looking at you. The drawers are filled with branded supplies, including backpacks and umbrellas, which you’re free to use during your stay. The bathroom is enormous, but I  wouldn’t expect anything less. Whilst the tub will be calling your name, the shower is something else, with its glass ceiling making you feel at one with nature.. If you can’t bear to pull yourself from your cloud-like bed, for an additional (but totally worthwhile!) cost, you can have your Insta-worthy breakfast spread delivered straight to your door – in a custom food delivery truck. It’s pretty damn cool. There’s no denying that a few days at Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley will cost you a pretty penny, but boy is it worth it. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will want to have again…and again Jessica O’Connell
